Absorptive Color Glass Filters (Optical Colored Glass Optics)

Color glass filters (also referred to as optical colored glass, ionic absorption filters, or mass-colored optical filters) are optical elements produced by doping optical glass melts with targeted metallic oxides or rare-earth elements. Unlike interference filters that reflect rejected light, color glass filters utilize bulk material absorption to selectively attenuate unwanted spectral bands.

    Functions:
Imparts continuous bulk spectral absorption throughout the entire substrate matrix, providing precise transmission or blocking across single or multiple wavelength bands. Features excellent angle-of-incidence (AOI) stability (no spectral wavelength shift under off-axis illumination), zero surface reflection ghosting, and robust, uniform optical performance resistant to surface scratches.

    Applications:
    Imaging equipment
    Medical diagnostic instruments
    DNA fluorescence analysis systems
    Counterfeit banknote detection devices
    Precision optical measurement equipment
Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) machine vision systems

    Information and Notes

    1. Absorptive color glass filters are manufactured by melting specialized optical raw material formulations into solid glass blocks, which are then precision-processed into high-flatness optical plates via wire sawing, surface grinding, and two-sided optical polishing.

    2. Absorptive glass substrates can be combined with custom multilayer dielectric thin films to sharpen spectral cut-off edges, expand out-of-band rejection windows, increase peak passband transmittance, or eliminate surface Fresnel reflection loss (AR coating).

    3. Vacuum thin-film depositions on color glass substrates are executed using Physical Vapor Deposition with Electron Beam Gun Evaporation (PVD-EBGE) technology for high film packing density and superior adhesion strength.
